The Detroit Tigers don't appear to be any closer to getting back young superstar Riley Greene from his fibula injury, and they won't be taking him on the road to Minnesota this weekend as part of his rehab and recovery.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Greene (fibula) won't travel with the Tigers on their road trip to Minnesota this weekend, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

ANALYSIS
Greene rejoined the team last Friday when they returned home and the plan had been to take him out on the road, but the Tigers have determined he can get more out of his rehab in Detroit. "We planned on taking him, but we have an anti-gravity treadmill that will take some weight off him where he can start to do more cardio work on his feet that he needs to use here," manager A.J. Hinch said. Greene's recovery from a stress fracture in his left fibula is coming along, although there doesn't appear to be a timetable for his return.

Greene is one of the centerpieces of the Tigers rebuild and has enjoyed a breakout season this year. The 22-year-old and former No. 5 overall pick in the draft is hitting .296 with five home runs, 18 RBI and six stolen bases.

He made his major league debut in 2022 and is a lifetime .268 hitter with 10 home runs. He and Spencer Torkelson make up the future position player core of the organization.

Detroit enters play on Wednesday at 27-37 on the season. They are currently leading the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of a doubleheader, 4-0.
