First-Place Milwaukee Brewers Lose Another Starting Pitcher to Injured List
The first-place Milwaukee Brewers have placed veteran left-handed pitcher Wade Miley on the injured list with a lat strain after he left Tuesday's game against the Cardinals early.
The Brewers beat the Cardinals, 3-2, but Miley lasted just 1.2 innings before exiting. His loss is a significant one for a Brewers team that is already dealing with the loss of starter Brandon Woodruff.
Miley has been a nice piece for Milwaukee this season, going 3-2 with a 3.67 ERA over eight starts.
It's been an interesting career for Miley, who has bounced around quite a bit. He's 102-96 for his career with a 4.12 ERA. He's pitched for the Diamondbacks (four years), Red Sox (one year), Mariners (0.5 years), Orioles (1.5 years), Brewers (2 total years), Astros (one year), Reds (two years) and Cubs (one year).
With the win, the Brewers are now 24-18 on the season. They are 2.0 games up on the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League Central. The loss drops the Cardinals to 17-26, who are now 7.5 back of Milwaukee.
The Brewers are still the favorite to win the NL Central, according to the gambling website Fanduel. The Brewers are the only team in the division with a winning record right now and the line to win the title is at minus-115 on Wednesday morning
The injury to Miley is yet another injury to a starting pitcher this season. Robbie Ray is out for the season for the Mariners, the Yankees haven't gotten anything from Carlos Rodon or Frankie Montas, the A's are now without young star Mason Miller, the Astros are down Luis Garcia and Jose Urquidy and the Royals are out Kris Bubic, just to name a few.
The Brewers and Cardinals will play Wednesday night at 7:45 p.m. ET.
