World Champion Houston Astros' Jose Altuve Dealing with Troubling Injury
The Houston Astros, who have won seven of their last 10 games, got some bad news on Tuesday when they scratched Jose Altuve with what was described as an oblique issue.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Altuve was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to left oblique discomfort, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
The severity of Altuve's injury is still unknown, but it's worth noting that Altuve missed four games in early June with a similar injury. The 33-year-old should be considered day-to-day going forward.
The Astros beat the Rockies, 4-1, but if they want to be at their best, they certainly need Altuve in the lineup. They are already dealing with Yordan Alvarez being out and can't afford to lose another big piece.
Certainly, the hope is that Altuve is alright, but the team could elect to play it safe and put him on the injured list, utilizing the extended break for the All-Star break.
Altuve is hitting .264 this season in 121 at-bats. He missed the early portion of the year after recovering from an injury sustained in the World Baseball Classic. He's got six home runs and 18 RBI.
For his career, he's a .306 hitter with 198 homers and 714 RBI.
He is an eight-time All-Star, a six-time Silver Slugger, a three-time batting champion, a two-time World Series winner, an MVP and a Gold Glove winner.
The Astros will take on the Rockies again on Wednesday at 2:10 p.m. ET before closing out the first half with a four-game series against the Mariners.
