Injury Updates to Baltimore Orioles' Austin Hays and Jordan Westburg
The Baltimore Orioles finally beat the Minnesota Twins on Sunday by a score of 2-1. Baltimore scored two runs in the eighth inning to earn the victory, but it came with a cost.
Both Austin Hays and rookie Jordan Westburg are dealing with injuries, according to Orioles reporter Danielle Allentuck:
Austin Hays has a hip contusion and is day to day. Jordan Westburg is sore and getting imaging, he was hit in the back of the hand
With regards to Hays, it's good to hear that he's day-to-day, but it's something worth monitoring, especially with the All-Star break looming. Teams will tend to give guys some extra time knowing that the break is coming, but with a full week of action left until the break, the Orioles are more likely to ride it out when Hays is healthy.
The outfielder is hitting .312 this season with eight homers, 34 RBI and two stolen bases. He's spent his entire career (since 2017) with Baltimore and is a lifetime .267 hitter with 55 homers, 195 RBI and 12 steals.
As for Westburg, the rookie was just recently promoted from the minors. One of the several noted Orioles prospects, he's hitting .263 through 19 at-bats. He has three RBI so far.
With the win, Baltimore is now 49-33 and 6.0 games back in the American League East. Tampa Bay will play later today at the time of this posting, so the O's will end the day at either 5.5 or 6.5 back.
The O's will open up a series with the New York Yankees on Monday. First pitch from Yankee Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
