Kansas City Royals Set to Bring Back Franchise Legend on Tuesday
The Kansas City Royals are set to activate franchise legend Zack Greinke from the injured list on Tuesday.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Greinke (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to pitch Tuesday against Oakland, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Royals have yet to determine whether Greinke will start or enter the game after an opener, but he'll be activated Tuesday assuming he checks all of the team's boxes, per Rogers. The veteran right-hander was placed on the 15-day IL on Aug. 8 due to elbow soreness and had racked up a 6.94 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB in his previous five outings (23.1 frames).
It's been a disappointing season overall for Greinke, who is just 1-12 for the Royals with a 5.53 ERA. Despite the failures of this year, Greinke is one of the more accomplished pitchers of the last 20 years.
Over his 20-year career with the Royals, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Brewers, Angels and Astros, Greinke is 224-153. He's got a lifetime 3.49 ERA which is heavily inflated by the last few years of his career.
He's a six-time All-Star, a six-time Gold Glover winner, and a Cy Young winner. He led baseball in ERA in 2015 with a microscopic 1.66.
The Royals and A's will play on Tuesday at 9:40 p.m. ET. Kansas City enters play at 40-87 while the A's are 35-90.
These are the two-worst teams in baseball and two teams that will be battling for the potential number one pick in the draft.
