Los Angeles Angels See Starting Shortstop Leave Game with Injury on Friday
The Los Angeles Angels saw starting shortstop Zach Neto leave the game early on Friday after being hit by a pitch.
Neto was hit on the foot by a pitch from Houston Astros starter Framber Valdez.
The following comes from the RotoWire fantasy baseball portal:
Neto exited Friday's game against the Astros with left foot soreness, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. He went 0-for-1 while reaching via a hit-by-pitch before leaving.
ANALYSIS
Neto was plunked in the left foot, and while he was initially able to continue in the contest, the rookie shortstop gave way not long after. Luis Rengifo has taken over at shortstop, and Neto should be considered day-to-day at this stage.
The hope certainly is that Neto is just day-to-day. The Angels are trying to stay relevant in the American League West race and can ill-afford to be losing starters. Neto was called up earlier this year and was the first player from the 2022 draft class to make his debut.
He's hitting .243 at this point with three home runs, 18 RBI and three stolen bases.
At the time of this posting, the Astros lead the Angels, 5-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Shohei Ohtani actually appeared human on the mound, giving up five runs over six innings against the defending champions. His ERA now sits at 3.30 on the year.
Valdez has worked seven innings to this point, surrendering no runs on five hits with one walk. He's struck out seven and his ERA is now 2.16.
