Milwaukee Brewers Slugger Makes Early Progress in Recovery From Injury
The Milwaukee Brewers enter play on Monday with a 0.5 game lead over the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Central.
As the Brewers gear up for the stretch run, they did get some promising, albeit early, news on slugger Rowdy Tellez.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Tellez (forearm) said that he'll have 17 stitches removed from his fractured ring finger Tuesday, and he expects to resume swinging a bat as soon as Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tellez was initially placed on the 10-day injured list July 5 with right forearm inflammation, but he appeared on pace to get activated at some point this past week before he fractured his ring finger while shagging a fly ball July 15. Now one week into an expected 3-to-4-week recovery, Tellez looks to be progressing as anticipated but still has a few more hurdles to clear before his return can be considered imminent. Owen Miller will likely continue to serve as the Brewers' primary first baseman until Tellez is back in the fold.
While Tellez is not much of an average guy (.213 this season), he does provide much needed power and the Brewers will undoubtedly be happy to get him back in a few weeks.
He's got 12 homers and 36 RBI this season and is in his sixth major league season with the Blue Jays and Brewers.
Lifetime, he's a .233 hitter with 91 homers.
The Brewers open up a crucial series with the second-place Reds on Monday night.
