Milwaukee Brewers Starting Pitcher Nearing Return For Stretch Run
The Milwaukee Brewers enter play on Monday ahead in the National League Central by 0.5 games over the Cincinnati Reds.
As the Brewers battle it out for the division crown, they are getting closer to bringing back one of their key pitchers: Brandon Woodruff.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Woodruff (shoulder) could rejoin the Brewers' rotation after two more rehab starts, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Woodruff will make a second rehab start with High-A Wisconsin on Thursday before likely moving up to Triple-A Nashville for an outing on August 1. He will be re-evaluated at that point, with an activation possible if all goes well. Woodruff has been on the sidelines since mid-April with a Grade 2 subscapular strain, but there's finally light at the end of the tunnel with his recovery.
That's huge news for the Brewers that is he going to be able to contribute to meaningful baseball this season. He'll pair with Corbin Burnes to give the 'Crew a formidable rotation heading into the playoff push.
He was 1-0 this season with a 0.79 ERA before getting injured.
The Mississippi State product is in his seventh year in the big leagues. He owns a lifetime 42-25 record with a 3.14 ERA.
The Brewers are opening a series with the Reds on Monday night. These two teams will have played three series in the last three weeks as the battle for the division crown intensifies.
First pitch on Monday is set for 8:10 p.m. ET.
