The Minnesota Twins, in first place in the American League Central, are getting some good news ahead of a weekend series with the Detroit Tigers.

The team is activating key lineup component Byron Buxton from the injured list ahead of the series.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Buxton was activated from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

ANALYSIS
Buxton wound up being sidelined a few days past the minimum 10-day stay on the IL with a left rib contusion, but he's ready to go now for the Twins' four-game weekend series against the Tigers. The 29-year-old had been in a 2-for-22 rut at the plate before being injured when he took a Tanner Bibbee pitch to the ribs back on June 1.

While he's in that rut, his presence is still a big one for the Twins. The hope is that Buxton can stay healthy this time around as injuries have been an unfortunate reality of his career.

He played just 28 games in 2018, 87 in 2019, 39 in the COVID 2020 season, 61 in 2021 and 92 in 2022. He's only played more than 100 games once in his career (2017 - 140).

He was named an All-Star in 2022 and has won a Gold Glove. The team has moved him to designated hitter this year with an effort to keep him healthier.

In 50 games this season, he's hitting .220 with a .325 on-base percentage. He's registered 10 homers, 23 RBI and six stolen bases.

He signed a seven-year, $100 million contract before the 2022 season that will keep in Minnesota through the 2028 season.

The Twins enter play at 35-33 and are up by 3.5 games in the division.
