The Minnesota Twins are all but certain to head back to the American League playoffs this year, but the road to getting there officially just got more bumpy as the team could be forced to play without Carlos Correa.

The star shortstop left Monday's game with a re-aggravation of his plantar fasciitis, per Dan Hayes of 'The Athletic.'

Correa has played through this injury for several months but could not do it on Monday. He was injured while running after a fly ball in the first inning and left in the top of the second.

The Twins lost to the Reds 7-3 on Monday night to fall to 79-72. They lead the division by 7.0 games and are likely headed for the No. 3 seed in the American League playoffs. This means they would host the final wild card winner in the first round best-of-three series.

In his second year in Minnesota, Correa is hitting a disappointing .230. The 28-year-old has 18 homers and 65 RBI. He has a .711 OPS.

While more testing is likely needed on Correa's foot, given the Twins position in the standings, it seems plausible that they would sit down for a few days, no matter what.

A lifetime .272 hitter, Correa has 173 home runs. He's in his ninth MLB season with the Twins and Astros. He helped Houston win the 2017 World Series.

The Twins will take on the Reds again on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET as Kenta Maeda (MIN) goes against Fernando Cruz (CIN).
