Minnesota Twins Top Pitching Prospect Undergoes Serious Elbow Procedure

Twenty-Two Year Old Minnesota Twins prospect Connor Prielipp has undergone an internal brace procedure that will cost him the rest of the season.

Minnesota Twins top pitching prospect Connor Prielipp underwent an internal brace procedure on Monday, per reports.

The surgery, which is not quite as serious as Tommy John surgery, is still serious and will cost Prielipp the rest of the season and probably into next year as well.

The 22-year-old was drafted in the second round of the 2022 draft out of Alabama. Unfortunately, this isn't the first elbow problem he's had as he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the entire 2022 season.

He is the No. 3 prospect in the organization overall, and the top pitcher.

Here's more on him from his MLB.com prospect profile:

He threw during instructs last fall, slowly building up to two-inning stints, and was electric in those outings. His fastball was up over 95 mph and he’s working to add more consistent movement and carry to the pitch. His double-plus slider was perhaps the best single pitch in his college class, a real weapon that can touch 90 mph and features two-plane break. He didn’t throw his changeup much at Alabama, but the Twins were pleased with how solid it looked and the low-80s sinking offspeed pitch could be at least average.

Unfortunately, we won't get to see any of that until the 2024 season, but hopefully he's able to come back quickly in the season. For comparison, Boston Red Sox infielder Trevor Story had an internal brace procedure done this winter and still isn't playing in games yet.
