New York Yankees Get Another Discouraging Injury Update, This Time on Josh Donaldson
The New York Yankees continue to get discouraging updates on the injury front.
First, they found out that Giancarlo Stanton would be out 4-6 with a hamstring issue. You can read on his situation here.
Then, they found out that free agent acquisition Carlos Rodon is dealing with back problems. You can read on his situation here.
Now? They've revealed that third baseman Josh Donaldson has been pulled from his rehab assignment with continued hamstring problems. He played one rehab game at Double-A and has since gone for an MRI on his hamstring. We don't know more at this time.
Donaldson, 37, is in his second season with the Yankees after being acquired in a trade last year with the Minnesota Twins. He hit .222 last year for Yankees in 132 games. For his career, he's a .264 hitter with a .361 on-base percentage. He's spent time with the Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays and Atlanta Braves, in addition to the Twins and Yankees.
He won the MVP in 2015 with Toronto, is a three-time all-star and has won two Silver Slugger awards.
He's in the final year of a four-year, $92 million dollar contract that he signed with the Minnesota Twins before the 2020 season. He was traded to the Yankees before the 2022 season.
In his absence, the Yankees have played Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Oswaldo Cabrera and DJ LeMahieu at third base.
The Yankees entered play on Wednesday at 10-7, fourth place in the deeply competitive American League East.
