The New York Yankees were dealt a big blow on Tuesday night. Just minutes after losing to the Chicago White Sox, 3-2, the team told reporters they were putting Judge on the injured list with a toe problem.

He suffered the injury on Saturday afternoon by crashing into the right field wall at Dodger Stadium while making a catch.

Brendan Kuty, Yankees reporter, had the latest on Twitter:

Aaron Judge has a bruise and a strain of a ligament in his right big toe, will go on the IL. #Yankees

Judge has already been on the IL once this year for a hip issue, so an additional absence certainly causes major issues for a Yankees team that is among the best in baseball -- when Judge plays.

After winning the MVP a season ago, he's hitting .291 this year with 19 homers and 40 RBI. He's added three stolen bases. For his career, he's a .284 hitter with 239 home runs.

Judge signed a massive nine-year, $360 million contract this offseason that will likely keep him in New York for the rest of his career. In addition to the MVP award, Judge has won Rookie of the Year, a home run derby title, three Silver Slugger awards, and is a four-time All-Star selection.

After the loss, the Yankees are now 36-26 on the season. They are 7.5 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.

The Yankees will play the White Sox again on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. ET.
