New York Yankees Starter 'Likely' Headed to Injured List
New York Yankees starting third baseman Josh Donaldson is likely headed to the injury list with a hamstring injury after leaving Wednesday's game early.
Yankees insider Jack Curry of the YES Network says that Boone will make the decision later today.
Should Donaldson officially head to the injured list, D.J. LeMahieu and Isiah Kiner-Falefa seem likely to get most of the playing time at third.
LeMahieu, who is starting at third on Friday against the Orioles, has played in 191 career games at third base.
Kiner-Falefa won a gold glove at third base for the Texas Rangers during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He doesn't offer as much with the bat though, hitting just four home runs a season ago.
Donaldson, 37, is in his second season with the Yankees after being acquired in a trade last year with the Minnesota Twins. He hit .222 last year for Yankees in 132 games. For his career, he's a .264 hitter with a .361 on-base percentage. He's spent time with the Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays and Atlanta Braves, in addition to the Twins and Yankees.
He won the MVP in 2015 with Toronto, is a three-time all-star and has won two Silver Slugger awards.
He's in the final year of a four-year, $92 million dollar contract that he signed with the Minnesota Twins before the 2020 season. He was traded to the Yankees before the 2022 season.
