New York Yankees Bringing Back Three Valuable Players From Injured List
The New York Yankees just took two of three games in Seattle and now sit at 34-24 overall.
While that all sounds good, it's about to get better for New York.
The team is set to bring back injured contributors Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson and Tommy Kahnle ahead of this weekend's series with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Yankees tweeted the corresponding roster moves in anticipation:
Following last night’s game, the Yankees optioned INF/OF Oswaldo Cabrera, INF/OF Franchy Cordero and LHP Matt Krook to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
This is excellent news for the Yankees, who have been playing shorthanded in various ways for most of the season.
Stanton has been out since mid-April with a left hamstring strain and just began a Double-A rehab stint this week. Evidently, he's ready to go.
The 33-year-old is a five-time All-Star, a two-time Silver Slugger, a home run derby champion and he won the National League MVP in 2017 with the Marlins.
For his career, he's a .264 hitter with 382 home runs. He pairs with Aaron Judge to make one of the most dangerous home run duos in the entire sport.
For this season, he's out to a .269 start with four home runs.
Donaldson has been out since early April, also with a hamstring issue. The 37-year-old is in his second season with the Yankees after being acquired in a trade last year with the Minnesota Twins.
He hit .222 last year for Yankees in 132 games. For his career, he's a .264 hitter with a .361 on-base percentage. He's spent time with the Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays and Atlanta Braves, in addition to the Twins and Yankees.
He won the MVP in 2015 with Toronto, is a three-time All-Star and has won two Silver Slugger awards.
He's in the final year of a four-year, $92 million dollar contract that he signed with the Minnesota Twins before the 2020 season.
He's hitting .125 in just 16 at-bats this season.
Kahnle, 33, has been battling bicep issues and hasn't pitched this season. He also missed all of 2021 and most of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
He made his major league debut with the Rockies in 2014 and has also pitched for the Chicago White Sox. He was effective with the Yankees from 2017-2019 and pitched for the Dodgers in 2022 for 13 games.
The Yankees and Dodgers series begins on Friday at 10:10 p.m. ET.
Luis Severino pitches for New York while Clayton Kershaw gets the ball for Los Angeles.
The Yankees are in third place in the highly-competitive American League East while the Dodgers are 0.5 games up on the Diamondbacks in the National League West.
Sunday's game will be televised on ESPN as part of 'Sunday Night Baseball.'
