Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown will miss 4-6 weeks with a grade-2 oblique strain, according to manager Mark Kotsay.

Brown was placed on the injured list over the weekend and now we know the timeline for return.

The 30-year-old hit 25 home runs for the Athletics last season and knocked in 73. He hit 20 homers in the 2021 season and is one of the few threatening pieces in the Athletics lineup. He had third or fourth in each of the eight games he had played this year.

The team has traded away Matt Chapman, Matt Olson and Sean Murphy in recent offseasons. Only the Tigers have scored fewer runs than the A's this year.

Oakland is destined to be one of the worst teams in baseball again this season and is out to a 2-8 start on the year, and this certainly won't help.

It also won't help the A's on the trade front, either. If Oakland was inclined to try to move on from Brown to get something in return, he'll have a harder time bringing them something if we don't see him on a field until sometime in June.

Conner Capel has picked up the last three starts in left field in Brown's absence. Capel has a .299 career batting average in 30 big league games. The left-handed hitter hit .259 at AAA last year.

The A's will take on the Baltimore Orioles again on Tuesday night in Baltimore. For the A's sake, hopefully the pitching holds up well enough to not have to be mocked again by the O's and their new celebration.
