San Diego Padres Star Set to Undergo MRI on Ailing Finger
San Diego Padres star Juan Soto is going to use Thursday's off day to undergo an MRI on his ailing finger.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Soto will receive an MRI on his right middle finger Thursday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Padres manager Bob Melvin previously said that Soto's finger had been bothering the young slugger since spring training, and Soto will use the Padres' off day Thursday to see if there's anything to be concerned about. Soto's finger hasn't affected his performance much, as he holds a .902 OPS with six homers and 19 RBI since the beginning of July.
The Padres are 6.5 games back in the National League wild card race and are holding onto extremely fleeting playoff hopes, so the last thing they need is a Soto injury.
He's hitting .262 overall this year with 20 home runs and 62 RBI. He's also got a robust .417 on-base percentage.
Still just 24 years old, Soto is already a three-time All-Star, a batting champion, a three-time Silver Slugger award winner and a World Series champion.
He's a .283 lifetime hitter with 145 homers and 436 RBI. He's also got a career .423 on-base percentage. He's leading the league in walks this year and has led the league in walks twice over a full season. He's also a two-time OBP crown winner.
The Padres will host the first-place Texas Rangers on Friday night at Petco Park. First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET.
