The San Diego Padres came from behind to beat the Washington Nationals on Thursday, getting a much-needed victory.

The 8-6 win moved the Padres to 23-27 on the season and made them winners of three of their last four. The Padres scored three runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the ninth to help fuel the victory.

With the loss, Washington dropped to 21-29.

Despite getting the victory, it wasn't all optimistic for San Diego, as the team won't be activating superstar Manny Machado from the injured list on Friday when first eligible.

The following comes from the Yahoo! Sports fantasy baseball portal:

Padres manager Bob Melvin said he doesn't expect Machado (hand) to be ready for activation from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Friday, Byron Kerr of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Machado has been doing a range of baseball activities to test the small fracture in his left hand, but there are still some important boxes for him to check -- most notably live batting practice. The star third baseman could perhaps return at some point during the Padres' three-game weekend series against the Yankees, though it's hard to put a guarantee on the timetable. He suffered the injury to his glove hand when he was hit by a pitch May 15 versus the Royals.

Though the Padres have won more recently, they generally have struggled offensively this year. Getting Machado back will be a big presence in that lineup.

He's hitting just .231 with five homers and 19 RBI. He's added two steals as well.

For his career, Machado is a .280 hitter with 288 homers and 872 RBI. He's spent time with the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers, in addition to the Padres.

He is a six-time All-Star and a two-time Gold Glove winner.
