The Seattle Mariners are in desperate need of a big week against a very difficult portion of their schedule. Playing the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, the M's could use at least a 3-3 split out of this roadtrip, but it hasn't started off well.

Not only are the Mariners losing 3-1 to the Yankees at the time of this posting, but they've lost starting shortstop JP Crawford as well.

Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times tweeted that Crawford left with a right shoulder contusion. He was replaced by Dylan Moore.

The M's entered play at 35-35 and in fourth place in the American League West and are likely to fall to 35-36 after this game. They can't afford to lose their leadoff hitter and starting shortstop for this critical stretch, so hopefully Crawford doesn't need to miss any time.

The pesky Crawford is hitting .239 this season with four homers and 24 RBI. He's also stolen one base. Acquired from the Phillies before the 2019 season, he's been a major part of the Mariners rebuild, winning a Gold Glove in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He's also emerged as a team leader and was a big part of the M's making the playoffs in 2022.

Lifetime, he's a .247 hitter with 31 homers and 208 RBI.

The Mariners and Yankees will play again on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. ET. Luis Castillo will pitch for Seattle. He's 4-5 with a 2.73 ERA. The Yankees haven't announced a starter yet but it's likely to be Jhony Brito.
