The St. Louis Cardinals, who are looking for a return trip to the playoffs in 2024, continue to get poor news on injured outfielder Dylan Carlson.

The 25-year-old California native, who is battling a left shoulder injury, has not started baseball activities yet and remains a ways away from rejoining the Major League roster.

Per Cardinals' reporter John Denton on social media:

#Cardinals CF Dylan Carlson, who recently received a cortisone shot in his sprained left shoulder, is still doing strengthening exercises and has yet to restart baseball activities, manager Oli Marmol said.

Carlson sprained his shoulder last Mon. after a hard fall on the track.

When Carlson does make his debut, it will be his fifth Major League season, all with the Cardinals. He made his Major League debut in 2020 and became a big part of the roster in 2021, hitting 18 homers in 149 games. He finished third in the National League Rookie of the Year voting that season.

The Cardinals are 2-3 in the early going this season, but it doesn't help that they needed to play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first series of the season. Coming off a last-place finish in the National League Central last season, St. Louis is looking for a massive improvement this year.

St. Louis will take on the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night. First pitch from Petco Park is slated for 9:40 p.m. ET. It's the second time through the rotation for righty Miles Mikolas. He is 0-1 with a 10.38 ERA for St. Louis. He'll be opposed by Yu Darvish.
