Tampa Bay Rays Appear Ready to Activate Tyler Glasnow This Week
The Tampa Bay Rays appear ready to welcome Tyler Glasnow back to the starting rotation next weekend.
The lanky right-hander will make his first start of the season on May 27 in all likelihood, per reports from Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
#Rays aren’t announcing anything yet, but plan looks to be for Criswell to stick around and pitch bulk innings Friday vs. #Dodgers, and Glasnow to be activated and start Saturday. Allows for an extra day’s rest for Glasnow and others.
Glasnow was dominant in his final Triple-A rehab start on Sunday, going six innings, allowing one run and striking out six for Durham.
Glasnow had been out for the entire season with an oblique issue, and then he got a little scare earlier in the rehab process with a side issue.
Injuries have been a major part of Glasnow's career, unfortunately. He underwent Tommy John Surgery in 2021 and missed most of 2022 recovering.
When healthy, Glasnow is one of the best pitchers in baseball. He had a 1.78 ERA in 2019 (12 starts), a 2.66 ERA in 2021 (14 starts) and had a 1.35 ERA in two starts last year.
For his career, he's 20-20 with an ERA of 4.00. He made his major league debut with the Pirates in 2016 and was traded to the Rays in the 2018 season.
The Rays enter play on Monday with the best record in baseball at 34-14. They are beginning a series on Monday with the Toronto Blue Jays. If Glasnow returns on Saturday, he'll start against Dodgers in a 2020 World Series rematch.
