Tampa Bay Rays Dealing With Another Troubling Pitcher Injury

The Tampa Bay Rays are dealing with another worrisome injury to a pitcher. This time? Zach Eflin.

Earlier on Wednesday, we heard that the Tampa Bay Rays were interested in acquiring starting pitcher Lance Lynn from the Chicago White Sox.

They may need to ramp up that interest as the team is now dealing with another pitching injury. This time? Starter Zach Eflin.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Rays manager Kevin Cash said after Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Marlins that Eflin (knee) will undergo an MRI, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

ANALYSIS
Eflin was dealt his sixth loss of the season Tuesday after serving up five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three before departing following the fourth inning. The Rays attributed his early exit to left knee discomfort, and Cash said that Eflin's upcoming MRI will provide a better sense on the source of the pain. Eflin can be considered day-to-day for the time being and tentatively lines up to make his next start early next week agains the Yankees, though a trip to the injured list remains a possibility at this stage.

Overall this season, the 29-year-old is 11-6 with a 3.64 ERA. He's been a welcome addition to the rotation after spending seven years in Philadelphia. The Rays can not afford any more injuries to the rotation as Drew Rasmussen and Jeffrey Springs are already out for the season.

Tampa has now lost eight of its last 10 games and has fallen into second place in the American League East.

They will be off on Thursday before visiting the streaking Astros on Friday.
