Tampa Bay Rays Push Back Start For Tyler Glasnow as Rotation Worries Deepen
The Tampa Bay Rays, already down three starting pitchers, likely for the year, are continuing to worry about the health of Tyler Glasnow.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Glasnow (back) will make his next start Monday at San Francisco, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
Glasnow had been aiming to start Saturday versus Cleveland and threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Friday afternoon at Tropicana Field, but the Rays will play it safe and delay his return a couple additional days. The 29-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched since July 31 due to back spasms.
While it's good that Glasnow appears set to throw on Monday, it's another negative for a Rays team that has all kinds of rotation woes. Drew Rasmussen and Jeffrey Springs are out for the year while it was reported this week that ace Shane McClanahan is "likely" done for the year.
The Rays enter play on Friday at 69-48 and 3.0 games back in the American League East and if they want to chase down the Baltimore Orioles, they'll need a healthy Glasnow to do it.
The 29-year-old is 5-3 this season with a 3.15 ERA but has only made 12 starts because of injuries earlier this season.
One of the best arms in baseball, he's had trouble staying healthy in general over the last few years. He made just 16 appearances in 2021 and 2022 combined.
The Rays are taking on the Cleveland Guardians this weekend in a series in Tampa Bay.
