Texas Rangers Likely to Lose Key Star to the Injured List with Thumb Issue
The Texas Rangers, trying to hold onto first place in the American League West, appear likely to be be dealt a major blow.
It's being reported that starting shortstop and lineup catalyst Corey Seager is likely headed to the injured list with a thumb issue sustained on Friday.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Seager (thumb) is expected to need a stint on the injured list, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.
ANALYSIS
X-rays came back clean on Seager's right thumb after he injured it on a slide into second base Friday versus the Dodgers. However, he's undergoing an MRI on Saturday and while more will be known once those results are in, the feeling seems to be that he is going to have to miss some time. Ezequiel Duran is getting a start at shortstop Saturday and figures to see the bulk of the action there while Seager is sidelined.
Everyone in Arlington will wait for those results as Seager is a largely irreplaceable part of that lineup. The Rangers are only 3.0 games ahead of the Astros heading into play on Saturday and can ill-afford a lengthy absence from one of their best players.
The 29-year-old Seager is hitting .350 this year with 15 homers and 58 RBI. He's also added a stolen base and a .413 on-base percentage. This would be his second stint on the injured list after missing time with a hamstring injury earlier in the season.
He's in his second season with the Rangers after spending seven with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He helped the Dodgers win the 2020 World Series.
