The Texas Rangers are one step closer to getting back star shortstop Corey Seager.

The powerful lefty has been on the injured list since April 12th with a left hamstring strain.

We learned more on his comeback attempt Wednesday from Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. His words were put into context by the fantasy sports site, RotoWire:

Texas manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Seager (hamstring) is seven-to-10 days from returning to the lineup.

Advice: That time frame presumably includes a short rehab assignment for Seager, who was seen this week taking grounders with infielders and performing other baseball-related activities. Until his return, Ezequiel Duran should continue to hold down shortstop.

Getting Seager back in the lineup would be a huge for a Rangers team that is eyeing its first playoff appearance since 2016. Entering Thursday, the Rangers are in first place in the American League West at 18-12. They are 1.5 games ahead of the Angels, 2.5 ahead of the defending champion Astros, 4.0 ahead of the Mariners and 12.5 ahead of the Oakland A's.

Seager is in the second year of a 10-year, $325 million deal with the Rangers and is off to a fantastic start this year, hitting .359 with one home run and four RBI, and posting an OPS of 1.007.

For his career, he's a .287 hitter with 138 home runs. He spent the first seven years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, helping them win the World Series during the shortened 2020 COVID season.

The Rangers take on the Angels this weekend in a series beginning Friday night at 9:38 p.m. ET.
