The Texas Rangers, in first place in the American League West entering play on Monday (20-13), got some good news regarding injured shortstop Corey Seager.

Seager, who has been out since mid-April with a left hamstring strain, is expected to start a rehab assignment this week.

Yahoo! Sports' fantasy baseball page has more information:

Seager (hamstring) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Thursday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Seager has been on the 10-day injured list since April 12 due to a left hamstring strain, but he continues to make progress in his recovery. Considering he's missed almost a month of action, he'll likely need a handful of contests to get back up to speed before the Rangers activate him.

Based on that information, it seems as if Seager could be back in the Rangers lineup next week, which would be huge as they try to maintain their position atop the AL West.

Texas is looking for its first playoff berth since 2016.

Seager is in the second year of a 10-year, $325 million deal with the Rangers and was off to a fantastic start this year, hitting .359 with one home run and four RBI, and posting an OPS of 1.007.

For his career, he's a .287 hitter with 138 home runs. He spent the first seven years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, helping them win the World Series during the shortened 2020 COVID season.

The Rangers play the Mariners tonight in Seattle at 9:40 p.m. ET.
