Texas Rangers Star Adolis García Left Out of World Series Game 4 Lineup Due to Injury
Just as his star-making postseason run was reaching a fever pitch, Adolis García has been sidelined.
The Texas Rangers announced their lineup for Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday, and García was not a part of it. The right fielder suffered a left oblique injury in the eighth inning of Game 3 on Monday, immediately grabbing his side after flying out to center.
Travis Jankowski, who subbed in for García for the final frame of that contest, will start in his place in right field against the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday night. Designated hitter Mitch Garver is filling in as Texas' No. 3 hitter, while Jankowski is slated to hit ninth.
Manager Bruce Bochy said García has been diagnosed with a moderate oblique strain and will receive further evaluation, emphasizing that the news so far has not been great. Barring a last-minute change before first pitch, he is not expected to be available off the bench Tuesday.
García took batting practice during warmups, but he was unable to go beyond a few swings.
If Texas determines that he is unable to play at all in the next week, the club will look to bring in an injury replacement to round out the roster.
García had been an anchor in the Rangers' lineup all playoffs long. Even after going 0-for-3 on Monday, he is still batting .323 with eight home runs, 22 RBI and an 1.108 OPS in October.
The ALCS MVP set the record for RBI in a single postseason with his walk-off home run in Game 1 on Friday.
García appeared in 148 games in the regular season, batting .245 with 39 home runs, 107, an .836 OPS and a 4.2 WAR. He had a brief stint on the injured list in September after suffering a strained right patellar tendon, which actually opened the door for Evan Carter to earn his first big league call up.
Carter will bat cleanup for the Rangers on Tuesday. Their full starting lineup is as follows:
2B Marcus Semien
SS Corey Seager
DH Mitch Garver
LF Evan Carter
3B Josh Jung
1B Nathaniel Lowe
C Jonah Heim
CF Leody Taveras
RF Travis Jankowski
P Andrew Heaney
First pitch from Chase Field is scheduled for 8:03 p.m. ET. The Rangers lead the Diamondbacks 2-1 in the series after winning Games 1 and 3.
