The Toronto Blue Jays open up a series on Friday against the Minnesota Twins, and they'll do it without a key component.

Catcher Danny Jansen was placed on the injured list on Friday with a left groin strain.

The team put out the information on Twitter on Friday afternoon.

ROSTER MOVES: C Danny Jansen (left groin strain) placed on 10-day IL, retroactive to May 25

C Tyler Heineman recalled from Triple-A and will be active tonight

Jansen is out to a slow start average-wise, hitting just .207 for the Jays, but he has provided a great deal of power for the Toronto lineup. He's got six home runs and 26 RBI on the season, which has drastically outpaced fellow catcher Alejandro Kirk, who has just two homers and 12 RBIs.

Jansen was a 16th-round pick of the Jays in the 2013 draft and is a lifetime .221 hitter with 54 homers. He made his major league debut in 2018 and has spent his entire career with Toronto.

Heineman is a former eighth-round pick of the Houston Astros who made his debut in the 2019 season. He's played for the Marlins, Giants, Blue Jays and Pirates. He appeared in three games for Pittsburgh earlier this season.

The Blue Jays and Twins game begins at 8:10 p.m. ET in Minnesota. Kevin Gausman pitches for Toronto while Louie Varland throws for the Twins.

Toronto enters the game at 26-25 overall while the Twins are 26-24. To highlight the differences in the two team's divisions: Toronto is last in its division while the Twins are in first in the AL Central.
