Toronto Blue Jays to Lose Star Bo Bichette to Injured List with Knee Problem

The Toronto Blue Jays, in the midst of a playoff chase, are placing star shortstop Bo Bichette on the injured list with a knee problem.

The Toronto Blue Jays, current owners of the third and final wild card spot in the American League playoff picture, have placed star shortstop Bo Bichette on the injured list with a knee problem.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Bichette was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right patellar tendinitis, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

ANALYSIS
Bichette tweaked his knee in Monday's series opener against the Orioles and needs an extended break for rest and treatment. Blue Jays manager John Schneider declined Wednesday to put a timetable on the star shortstop's return, telling Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic that "we got to see how he does." Tuesday's trade-deadline acquisition of Paul DeJong from the Cardinals has suddenly proven a lot more useful for Toronto.

Bichette is one of the most impactful players in all of baseball, so his loss will be a big one for the Jays. The two-time All-Star is hitting .321 this season with 17 homers. His 144 hits also lead all of baseball entering play on Wednesday.

He also has 59 RBI.

The Jays are 59-49 and 7.5 games back in the American League East. They lead the chase for the final wild card spot by 1.5 games over the Boston Red Sox.

Toronto takes on the American League-best Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:07 p.m. ET as Orioles rookie Grayson Rodriguez pitches against Blue Jays lefty Yusei Kikuchi.

Rodriguez is 2-2 with a 6.21 ERA while Kikuchi is 8-3 with a 3.79 ERA.
