After successfully clearing waivers, infielder Jordan Groshans has been sent to Triple-A with the New York Yankees.

From the team:

Following today’s game, the Yankees reassigned C Josh Breaux, C Ben Rice and RHP Joey Gerber to minor league camp.

Additionally, the Yankees outrighted INF Jordan Groshans off the Major League roster and onto the roster of Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

It's the latest chapter in a wild offseason for the former Toronto Blue Jays' top prospect, who was also designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins months ago.

Groshans was in the Top 100 prospects (per MLB.com) for three straight years from 2020-2022, getting as high as No. 46 in 2021. Groshans is still just 24 years old, so there's certainly a chance of him finding himself as he moves forward, but it just hasn't happened yet. He's hit .262 in 61 career major league at-bats but hit just .244 at Triple-A last season (Marlins), with only six home runs.

At the major league level, the Yankees have established infielders like Anthony Rizzo, DJ LeMahieu and Anthony Volpe, so it wasn't realistic for Groshans make the roster out of camp. He'll get an opportunity in the minors to refine his skills and hope for another chance at the big leagues later this season.

Here's what his MLB.com prospect profile previously said:

Combining plus bat speed with a balanced swing and a knack for barreling the baseball, Groshans has the potential to hit for average and power from the right side of the plate. He consistently hits hard line drives with backspin carry to all fields, has no problem turning around quality velocity and employs an approach that's advanced for his age. Scouts believe Groshans will develop plus power as he grows into his projectable 6-foot-3 frame and adds some loft to his swing, and he already shows an innate feel for driving the ball the other way with authority.
