Miami Marlins 'Creating Path' For Young Stud to Return to Majors
As the Miami Marlins make a run at their first playoff appearance since 2020, they are 'creating a path' to bring back young ace Eury Perez to the major leagues.
Perez had been sent to the minors before the All-Star break in order to better manage his innings, as he's just 20 years old, and is of the organization's foundational pieces moving forward.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Perez made a start for Double-A Pensacola last Wednesday, tossing 2.1 innings and striking out five while allowing two runs (one earned) in a 4-3 win over Mississippi. According to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald, general manager Kim Ng said the Marlins are "creating a path for him to come back" to the big club, but no specific timeline was provided for when he'll be called up from Double-A. "We'll take it day by day and see where the staff is, see where he is, and just make sure that we monitor this really closely."
The 20-year-old has some of the best stuff of any young pitcher in baseball. He's gone 5-3 for Miami this year with a 2.36 ERA through 11 starts and has struck out 61 batters in 53.1 innings.
Miami is currently tied with the Brewers for the second and third wild card spots in the National League, so having Perez will be a big boost - but it also comes with a delicate balance.
He's thrown more than 86 innings this year between the majors and minors, already the most in a single season in his professional career.
