Milwaukee Brewers' brass made some interesting comments this week when they said that top prospect Jackson Chourio won't break camp with the team in 2024.

Chourio, the 19-year-old phenom who is the No. 2 overall prospect in baseball, hit .282 this season between Double-A and Triple-A. He also hit 22 home runs, drove in 91 and stole 44 bases.

How they have already decided that he won't make the team five months from now seems curious, but here we are.

Per an article from MLB.com:

“It's hard to put a timetable on it for a 19-year-old,” (GM Matt) Arnold said, “but he has a chance to be really special.”

The Brewers are littered with outfield depth, so maybe that's why Arnold says they don't have room for Chourio at this point.

“You have depth until you don't. I think we ran into it a little bit this year,” Arnold said. “Honestly, we had a number of injuries – guys go down. We had [Sal] Frelick and [Garrett] Mitchell go down just about the same day. You have a lot of outfielders, and then all of a sudden you don't, so I think we're conscious of that.”

They have Christian Yelich, Mitchell, Frelick, Blake Perkins and Tyrone Taylor, in addition to Joey Wiemer. The Brewers also hold an $11.5 million option on Mark Canha, who they acquired at the trade deadline from the New York Mets.

Milwaukee won the National League Central this season before being swept in the wild card round by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
