Baseball's No. 2 Overall Prospect is Getting Really Hot at Double-A
While the Milwaukee Brewers enter the day on Wednesday in first place at the Major League Level, they are also getting good news at the minor league level in the form of top prospect Jackson Chourio, who has been raking recently at Double-A.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Chourio went 12-for-23 (.522) with three home runs, three doubles, six RBI and a 1:2 BB:K over his last five games with Double-A Biloxi.
ANALYSIS
Chourio owned a .699 OPS as recently as July 5, but thanks to his recent surge that number is all the way up to .764. Chourio has been a bit streaky in his first full season at the Double-A level, but he has now racked up 13 homers, 16 doubles and 22 stolen bases over 75 games -- and he still will not turn 20 years old until next March.
He's the No. 2 overall prospect in the game and with the success of guys like Julio Rodriguez recently, it's not impossible to think that we'll see Chourio break camp with the big league club in 2024.
For more on him, here's a portion of his prospect profile from MLB.com:
Chourio brings multiple at least plus tools to the table. His 70-grade speed is perhaps the loudest, and it was a big reason why Milwaukee moved him to center field, where he could cover even more ground than shortstop. What’s more, his contact at the plate is loud and capable of playing everywhere in the park. Brewers officials were often awestruck at how the right-handed slugger thumped the ball to right almost as easily as he did to left.
The Brewers are 52-43 this season and lead the National League Central by 2.5 games.
