Washington Nationals Farmhand Earns Big Promotion as Excitement Builds
The Washington Nationals have made an exciting decision down on the farm, promoting 2023 first-round draft pick Dylan Crews to Double-A.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Crews was promoted from Single-A Fredericksburg to Double-A Harrisburg on Sunday, Buster Olney of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Crews was the second overall pick in this year's draft and has slashed .383/.449/.683 with five home runs, two doubles, 24 RBI, 18 runs and a stolen base over 14 minor-league games. After his success over a limited sample, the 21-year-old will have a chance to prove himself at the Double-A level.
Moving quickly through a system is no longer a foreign concept. Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Angels moved Nolan Schanuel to the majors just weeks after being drafted in this year's draft. While that's not necessarily going to be the case with Crews, getting to Double-A already shows how close the Nationals think he is to being major league ready.
He is the the top prospect in the organization and the No. 4 overall prospect in baseball, per MLB.com's prospect rankings.
At the major league level, the Nationals are in last place in the National League East, but they are armed with several exciting young players and prospects. Crews will eventually join guys like CJ Abrams, Josiah Gray and Keibert Ruiz as the building blocks of the roster.
Crews hit a whopping .426 this season with 18 homers and 70 RBI for LSU, all while posting an absurd .567 on-base percentage. He was taken one pick after his LSU teammate, Paul Skenes, who went No. 1 to the Pirates.
