One thing that will undoubtedly play a factor in this season's win totals is Major League Baseball's new 'balanced schedule', which shrinks the amount of games played between division rivals. Now, every team will play all 29 other clubs. The Seattle Mariners will have some grueling travel in store for them in 2023 as a result of the schedule change.
A few win totals that seem a tad bit low to me: the Cardinals, Rays, Mariners, Guardians, Orioles and Diamondbacks.
The Orioles have a roster full of exciting young players, and are coming off their first winning season since 2016. They'll also benefit from having to play fewer games in a hypercompetitive American League East. Similar to the Orioles, the Diamondbacks have a promising young roster that could turn a corner in 2023.
After a relatively slow start with the league's youngest roster, the Guardians went 46-26 in the second half of last season, running away with the AL Central. The Guardians added Josh Bell and Mike Zunino to a very strong lineup, and hope to improve in 2023.
The Mariners are another team headed in the right direction. The club led the Houston Astros in the first two games of the ALDS last fall, and took Game 3 to the 18th inning, but came up short, being swept out of the playoffs. Make no mistake about it, the Mariners were right there with their division rival, and hope to make a strong push for their first division title in 22 years.
The Rays will have a dominant pitching staff, and the Cardinals are the easy favorites to win the NL Central.
