Arizona Diamondbacks Do Something They Haven't Done in Nearly Five Years
The Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the best stories in baseball this season, but they are more than just a good story. They are a very good team and a real threat to make the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
After finishing under .500 for the last three seasons, Arizona certainly has bounced back thanks to the spark from youngster Corbin Carroll, the development of Zac Gallen on the mound, and the bounce back year of Ketel Marte.
With a win on Wednesday over the Colorado Rockies, the Diamondbacks accomplished something they haven't done since 2018.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com on Twitter:
THE D-BACKS!
10 games above .500 for the first time since being 76-66 on Sept 8, 2018
Two things immediately stand out from that stat:
1) It's incredibly impressive to be 10 games over .500 this early in the season. The Diamondbacks are of only seven teams in baseball to have that distinction.
2) What happened to the 2018 team? That team finished at 82-80, so the Diamondbacks ended the year at 6-14? Ouch.
The D'Backs currently trail the Dodgers by 0.5 games in the National League West and have won seven of their last 10 games overall.
Arizona will finish up a series with the Rockies on Thursday at 3:40 p.m. ET before starting a weekend series with the first-place Atlanta Braves.
This should be a good test for Arizona, as the Braves were pegged by many as preseason World Series favorites.
First pitch on Friday is 9:40 p.m. ET.
