Tommy Pham Accomplishes Incredibly Rare Feat in Game 1 Loss to Texas Rangers
The Arizona Diamondbacks suffered a gut-wrenching loss on Friday night in Game 1 of the World Series against the Texas Rangers.
The D'Backs lost 6-5 thanks to a walk-off home run by Adolis Garcia in the bottom of the 11th inning. They lost a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the ninth because of a game-tying home run from Corey Seager.
As a result, the D'Backs are three losses away from elimination while the Rangers are three wins away from the organization's first title.
Though the D'Backs lost, there were still fun and quirky things to take note of, like this nugget on Tommy Pham.
Per Inside Edge:
Tommy Pham gets the lead back for the Diamondbacks!
Nathan Eovaldi allowed just one home run on his splitter to right-handed batters in the regular season.
He has now allowed two on splitters to righties in the Postseason.
Eovaldi's splitter is a devastating pitch, so for Pham to stay on it and drive it out of the ballpark is a true accomplishment. Acquired from the Mets at the trade deadline this year, Pham is hitting .213 this postseason. He has popped three home runs and stolen two bases.
The well-traveled 35-year-old is in his 10th year in the big leagues with the Cardinals, Rays, Padres, Reds, Red Sox, Mets and D'Backs.
He's a lifetime .259 hitter with 130 homers and 431 RBI. He hit .256 this season with 16 homers, 68 RBI and 22 stolen bases.
Game 2 of the World Series is set for Saturday night at 8:03 p.m. ET.
