Atlanta Braves' Ace Spencer Strider Makes History vs. San Diego Padres

On Tuesday night at the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider became only the second Braves pitcher ever to strike out nine batters or more in eight consecutive starts. He joined National Baseball Hall of Fame member John Smoltz in that elite club. Strider struck out nine batters over six innings against San Diego.

Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider made history on Tuesday night in San Diego.

With his six-inning, nine strikeout performance, Strider became only the second Braves pitcher to strike out nine-plus batters in eight consecutive starts. He joined Hall of Famer and Braves legend John Smoltz in that elite club.

The streak dates back to the 2022 season, here's a look at the run that Strider is on.

April 18th @ San Diego -- 9 strikeouts

April 12 vs. CIN -- 9 strikeouts

April 6 vs. SD -- 9 strikeouts

April 1 @ WAS -- 9 strikeouts

Sept. 18, 2022 vs. Philly -- 10 strikeouts

Sept. 12 @SFG -- 9 strikeouts

Sept. 7 @ OAK -- 9 strikeouts

Sept. 1 vs. COL -- 16 strikeouts

The last time that Strider didn't record nine strikeouts or more was last August 26th against the Cardinals, when he had seven strikeouts. He's out a phenomenal start in his young career. He finished second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting last year, behind his teammate Michael Harris II. 

He went 11-5 last year with a 2.67 ERA and helped the Braves win the National League East. Right now, At the time of this posting, Strider is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA for the Braves. He's got 36 strikeouts in 22 innings.

He's in line for the victory tonight against the Padres. The Braves lead 8-1 in the ninth inning at the time of this posting.
