Atlanta Braves Activate Ace Max Fried, Will Start Tonight at Padres
After a rash of injuries to start the season, the Atlanta Braves are starting to get healthier, at least when it comes to key players.
The National League East leaders have activated starting pitcher Max Fried from the injured list and he will start Monday on the road at the San Diego Padres.
He's been out since Opening Day, when he left his start against the Washington Nationals early with a hamstring strain.
The Braves sent out a tweet on Monday afternoon saying:
"The Braves today reinstated LHP Max Fried from the injured list, and placed LHP Lucas Luetge on the 15-day injured list with left bicep inflammation, backdated to April 14th."
Getting Fried back is a huge boost for the starting rotation, which also welcomed back Kyle Wright last week.
Fried went 14-7 with a 2.48 ERA a season ago and was a major reason why the Braves won 101 games and won the National League East.
He made the all-star team a season ago and has two top-five Cy Young finishes under his belt.
For his career, he's 54-25 with a 3.09 ERA and helped the Braves win the World Series in 2021, when he also went 14-7.
While getting Fried and Wright back are great, the team is still dealing with injuries to closer Raisel Iglesias, catcher Travis D'Arnaud and minor leaguer Ian Anderson. They've also recently lost shortstop Orlando Arcia, who will be re-evaluated in 10-14 days.
The Braves and Padres will start their series tonight at 9:40 p.m. ET.
