Atlanta Braves Activate Starting Shortstop, Option Prospect to Triple-A
The Atlanta Braves are re-instating starting shortstop Orlando Arcia before Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles.
In a corresponding move, shortstop prospect Vaughn Grissom has been optioned to Triple-A.
Arcia has been out since mid-April with a microfracture in his left wrist.
He was off to a good start for the Braves, hitting .333 with two home runs and seven RBI. He also got a contract extension right before the season started.
Being sent down is a disappointment for Grissom, who was expected to win the job out of spring training, but lost it to Arcia.
In Arcia's absence, he failed to cement a permanent spot on the roster. He hit .277 but had no home runs, just seven RBI and a .622 OPS.
From the RotoWire fantasy baseball page:
Atlanta reinstated Arcia (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Sunday. He'll start at shortstop and bat eighth in Atlanta's series finale with Baltimore.
Advice: Since he's been sidelined since April 12 with a microfracture in his left wrist, Arcia was expected to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment prior to returning from the IL, but Atlanta was comfortable enough with how the infielder checked out during workouts the last two days to expedite his activation. Atlanta sent Vaughn Grissom to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding transaction, clearing the way for Arcia to step back in as the team's everyday shortstop. Prior to injuring his wrist, Arcia had slashed .333/.400/.511 with two home runs, 10 runs and seven RBI over 50 plate appearances.
The Braves and Orioles are playing Sunday at 11:35 a.m. ET.
