Atlanta Braves' Austin Riley's Home Run Power Makes History Books on Thursday
The Atlanta Braves started off a big series with the Philadelphia Phillies in a big way on Thursday night, posting an 8-5 victory over their division rivals.
Braves third baseman Austin Riley also started the series in a big way, going 2-5 with two home runs and three RBIs.
Riley's home runs were absolute no-doubters and earned him a spot in the baseball record books.
Sarah Langs of MLB.com outlined the impressive feat on Twitter:
Austin Riley is the the 3rd player with 2 455+ ft home runs in a game tracked by Statcast (2015), joining:
9/13/19 Willson Contreras
9/5/18 Trevor Story
If we make it 450+, 5/12/19 Charlie Blackmon joins the list
Sure, the StatCast era has only lasted eight years or so, but it's still an impressive group to be a part of.
Riley his hitting .264 on the season after the big game and now has nine home runs and 26 RBIs. For his career, he's a .272 hitter with 106 home runs and 302 RBIs.
At the age of 26, Riley has already made an All-Star team (2022), won a Silver Slugger award (2021) and received MVP votes in two separate seasons. He also was integral in helping the Braves win the 2021 World Series over the Houston Astros, when he hit 33 homers and drove in 107.
The Braves and Phillies will renew their rivalry on Friday night in Atlanta.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET as Taijuan Walker (PHI) pitches against lefty Jared Shuster (ATL).
