Atlanta Braves Set Sellout Record Following Sweep Over New York Yankees
With a sold-out crowd of 40,743 fans cheering them on, the Atlanta Braves completed a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees on Wednesday night.
The Braves scraped by with a 2-0 victory over the Yankees, adding another win to their steadily growing season total. The game also marked the team's 43rd sellout of the year, which is their most in a single season since moving to Truist Park in 2017, according to 680 The Fan host Kevin McAlpin.
Atlanta now has more sellouts this season than it has losses.
From 1997 to 2016, the Braves played at Turner Field, which was originally built for the 1996 Summer Olympics. Before that, the Braves called Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium home for 31 years.
The Braves' move from downtown to the suburban Cobb County initially caused some controversy and plenty of dismay from fans, but it appears as if patrons are more than willing to take the trip to Truist Park this season. The Braves rank No. 5 in total attendance in 2023, all while filling their stadium closer to capacity than any of the top-four teams.
Atlanta posted its fourth-consecutive losing season in its very first year at Truist Park, but the club has made the playoffs and won the NL East every season since. The Braves even broke a 25-year World Series drought and won their second championship since moving to Atlanta in 2021, although they did clinch the title on the road in Houston.
A second World Series in three years is certainly in the cards for the Braves, who are 78-42 and have sat in first place for virtually the entire season. Riding a .650 winning percentage, Atlanta is on pace for its second-best record since the start of the live-ball era.
In home games, the Braves are 40-20 so far this season, which is tied for the best mark in baseball.
The Braves will remain at home over the weekend, hosting the San Francisco Giants for a three-game series at Truist Park. Game one is scheduled to get underway at 7:20 p.m. ET on Friday.
