Baltimore Orioles Set to Break Shocking Streak in Upcoming Game Against Yankees
The Baltimore Orioles' July 30 home game against the New York Yankees will be featured on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball, the network revealed in a press release Thursday.
The game was initially scheduled to begin at 1:35 p.m., but first pitch has been pushed back to 7:10 p.m. to fit the primetime ESPN broadcast window.
This marks the first time the Orioles will play on Sunday Night Baseball since 2018, which was also against the Yankees at Camden Yards. In that contest, the eventual 47-115 Orioles lost 5-3 on Aug. 26 to cap off an eight-game losing streak.
The Orioles are a very different team this time around, though, sitting just 2.0 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the AL East. After using a late-season surge to break a five-year streak of sub-.500 seasons in 2022, the Orioles are on pace to finish 98-64 in 2023.
If Baltimore can carry its .607 winning percentage through to the end of the year, it would post its best regular season record since 1980.
The July 30 matchup between the Orioles and Yankees could have significant playoff implications, with Baltimore currently holding the top Wild Card spot in the American League and New York 1.0 game back of the third slot.
The Orioles are 5-5 against the Yankees so far this season, but they have a plus-nine run differential in those games. There is only one series left on the schedule between the two teams, which starts July 28 and ends with the Sunday Night Baseball showdown on July 30.
