Bo Jackson, one of the best athletes in the history of American professional sports, revealed on Wednesday that he's been battling an odd medical condition: chronic hiccups.

Jackson told the McElroy and Cubelic Show that he's been suffering from the hiccup condition for a year now.

A Sports Illustrated article transcribed part of what Jackson said. He also indicated he's getting a medical procedure done later this week to try to put an end to the problem.

“I’ve had the hiccups since last July,” Jackson said. “I’m getting a medical procedure done the end of this week, I think, to try to remedy it. I’m busy at the hospital sitting up with the doctor’s poking me, shining lights down my throat, probing me every way they can to find out why I’ve got these hiccups.”

Jackson spent parts of eight years playing in the majors. He spent five years with the Kansas City Royals, two years with the Chicago White Sox and one with the then-California Angels.

He hit 141 career home runs and also stole 82 career bases. He made an All-Star Game in 1989 and won MVP of the game that year.

In his football career, Jackson played four seasons with the Raiders. He started 23 games and had more than 2,700 yards rushing. He had touchdown runs of 88 yards or more in three separate seasons and had 18 total touchdowns.

He also won the Heisman Trophy while playing at Auburn University.

Here's to hoping Jackson gets an answer and a fix to his hiccup problem.
