Boston Red Sox' Chris Sale Does Something He Hasn't Done in Six Years
Boston Red Sox lefty Chris Sale looks back.
Not just back, but all the way back.
The lefty threw another gem last night on the road at the Padres, tossing seven innings while allowing just three hits, two runs and striking out eight.
The Sox won the game, 4-2, and the win moved Sale to 4-2 on the season with a 5.01 ERA. While the season-long ERA still looks high, his recent stretch has been vintage Sale.
Tyler Milliken of 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston has more on Twitter:
Chris Sale’s numbers over his last 6 starts:
38.1 IP
3.05 ERA/2.93 FIP
10.1 K/9
1.4 BB/9
0.7 HR/9
0.89 WHIP

#SaleDay is officially back.
What's been so impressive about Sale's recent stretch is that he's not walking guys and he's not allowing the home run, something he really struggled with as he worked his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2021 and this season. (He missed nearly all of 2022 as well).
In that Padres outing, Sale continued to push the limits in his recovery. Rob Bradford of WEEI in Boston tweeted that Sale accomplished something he hadn't done since 2017.
This is the first time Chris Sale has thrown 110 or more pitches in back-to-back outings since Aug. 2017. Tonight: 111
The Red Sox have taken the first two games in the series from the reeling Padres. The Sox are now 26-20, while San Diego is 20-26.
The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon at 4:10 p.m. ET.
