Boston Red Sox Legend Kevin Millar Rallying Boston Celtics Ahead of NBA Playoff Game
The Boston Celtics are looking to pull off history in the NBA Playoffs, and they are getting support from Boston Red Sox legend Kevin Millar.
The Celtics trailed the Miami Heat 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals before winning Game 4 on Tuesday.
As the series shifts back to Boston for Game 5 on Thursday, the C's are looking to put themselves in a position to pull off the biggest comeback in NBA history. No team in NBA history has ever come back from a 3-0 series deficit; teams in those situations are 0-150 all-time.
But as the Celtics look to accomplish the impossible, Millar is rallying the team, reminding them of the 2004 Red Sox, which overcame a 3-0 series deficit in the ALCS to stun the Yankees.
The Sox are still the only baseball team to come back from a 3-0 playoff series deficit. They eventually won the World Series against the Cardinals.
Millar posted his message to the Celtics on social media:
"Alright, Boston, Kevin Millar here. Celtics, what I'm talking about is we gotta believe. We were down 0-3, now we got one in Miami, this is Game 5 at the Garden. I want to hear you "COWBOY UP, let's go!"
"Cowboy Up" was one of the mantra's of the 2004 Sox as they executed their comeback. The Celtics have been borrowing other phrases from that Sox team, as Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown both said "Don't let us win one," before Game 4. That's what Millar famously said before Game 4 against the Yankees.
They won that one.... now can they follow in the Sox' footsteps?
Game 5 is Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
