Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirms that the team will stick with veteran right-hander Corey Kluber in the starting rotation, at least for the next week.

After a clunker of a start on Sunday in San Diego, in which Kluber went just 2.1 innings and surrendered five runs (one earned), with three walks, his season ERA now sits at 6.26.

With Garrett Whitlock set to return this week to the rotation, the thought by some fans was that Kluber would find himself as the odd-man out, but his spot is safe for the time being.

Cora says Kluber will make his next start Sunday. Houck starting tomorrow in Anaheim. Red Sox will use six starters this week with Whitlock set to return Saturday then reassess.

The loss on Sunday moved Kluber to a very disappointing 2-6. Signed this offseason with the hope of stabilizing the rotation, he's ended up being the weak link as Chris Sale has re-established himself and James Paxton has looked good in his return from a slew of injuries.

What Kluber has done this year doesn't take away from an incredible career that has seen him go 115-77 overall. He still has a lifetime 3.39 ERA.

He is a three-time All-Star selection who won the American League Cy Young award in 2014 and 2017. He's led the league in wins twice and in ERA in 2017 (2.25).

The Red Sox will take on the Los Angeles Angels on Monday at 9:38 p.m. ET.
