Boston Red Sox Manager Alex Cora Says He Has No Interest in College Job
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora says he has no interest in becoming the next head baseball coach at the University of Miami.
Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe had the information on Twitter:
Alex Cora said he has no interest in the open @CanesBaseball job. He threw his support to pitching coach J.D. Arteaga, who has been on the staff since 2003.
This became a story because of a tweet from Karl Ravech of ESPN on Thursday, who suggested that Miami should call Cora about the vacant job, and wondered if Cora would listen:
His tweet read the following:
Sorry to see Gino Dimare step down as head baseball coach at the university of Miami-good man. Do the Canes go big and ask Alex Cora if he’d be interested in going back to Coral Gables? Very tight with pitching coach JD Arteaga. Big price tag but would he even be interested?
Despite the shutdown from Cora, the question is a fair one from Ravech. After all, Cora played at Miami and helped the Hurricanes reach the College World Series in both 1995 and 1996. Miami's proximity to Cora's home nation of Puerto Rico could also be seen as a benefit as well.
For now, Cora is firmly entrenched as the Red Sox manager, though. At the time of this posting, the Red Sox lead the New York Yankees, 1-0, in the top of the fifth inning.
The Red Sox entered play at 31-32 on the season and 5.0 games out of a wild card spot in the American League.
