Pittsburgh Pirates star Bryan Reynolds and the team have agreed to an eight-year, $106.75 million extension. The contract also contains a team option for 2031, a limited no-trade clause and does not have any opt-outs. The Pittsburgh Pirates and star outfielder Bryan Reynolds have agreed to a contract extension.

The extension is for eight years, $106.75 million and contains a team option for 2031. Robert Murray of Fansided has more in a tweet:

"BREAKING: Outfielder Bryan Reynolds and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in agreement on an eight-year, $106.75 million contract extension with a team option for 2031, according to sources familiar with the deal. It includes a form of no-trade protection."

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the no-trade protection is a limited no-trade clause that includes six teams. Those teams are not immediately known.

Murray also has more on the deal: saying "Reynolds' deal is the richest deal in Pirates history and does not include an opt-out. Here's a breakdown of the deal, per source:

$2 million signing bonus

2023: $6.75 million

2024: $10m

2025: $12m

2026: $14m

2027: $15m

2028: $15m

2029: $15m

2030: $15m

2031: team option for $20m ($2m buyout)

He adds that Reynolds' extension is the first time the Pirates have given no-trade protection in 17 years and is the largest deal for an outfielder drafted out of college. He was previously slated to hit FA in three years. Now, he's tied to Pittsburgh for at least the next eight seasons.

We had heard at the end of March that the two sides were close to an extension in spring training, but that talks fell apart. This deal is very similar to that one. You can read up on those negotiations here.

One of the best young players in the National League, the 28-year-old Reynolds is a lifetime .282 hitter with a .359 on-base percentage. He hit 27 home runs a season ago and is one the cornerstones of a hopeful Pirates turnaround along with Ke'Bryan Hayes and Oneil Cruz.

Reynolds is out to a good start this year, hitting .294 thus far with five home runs and 17 RBI. The Pirates have been one of the surprises in baseball in the early going. They are currently 16-7 and in first place in the National League Central. They have won eight of their last 10 games and will host the Dodgers tonight at 6:35 p.m. ET.
