Chicago White Sox Clean House Amid Terrible Season

The Chicago White Sox have fired both Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams amid a season that has them as one of the worst teams in baseball.

The Chicago White Sox have cleaned house.

Entering play on Tuesday at 49-76 and one of the worst teams in baseball, the team has fired both Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams.

Williams had been serving as the Executive Vice President while Hahn was the Senior Vice President and General Manager.

From a portion of the team's statement:

“Ultimately, the well-worn cliche that professional sports is results-oriented is correct,” (Jerry) Reinsdorf said. “While we have enjoyed successes as an organization and were optimistic heading into the competitive window of this rebuild, this year has proven to be very disappointing for us all on many levels. This has led me to the conclusion that the best decision for the organization moving forward is to make a change in our baseball department leadership."

Hahn had served as the general manager for the last 11 years and Williams had been in the organization for more than 20. He previously served as the general manager and helped the White Sox win the World Series back in 2005.

Chicago was supposed to be in the middle of a competitive window but has completely flopped this season. They made the playoffs in 2020 and 2021 but missed them in 2022 and nosedived this year.

The team traded away Lance Lynn, Lucas Giolio, Keynan Middleton, Reynaldo Lopez, Joe Kelly and Jake Burger at the trade deadline and has dealt with culture problems that have been detailed by multiple players.

The White Sox take on the Mariners on Tuesday night at 8:10 p.m. ET.
